Understanding Of Your GA4 Data
This section explains how to understand the data shown in GA4 reports inside Reports and Insights.
Date Range: All numbers depend on the selected date range.
In the free plan, the date range cannot be changed. Report data is shown for 45 days.
Always check the date range before comparing data.
Users vs Sessions
- Users are unique visitors
- Sessions are total visits
One user can generate multiple sessions.
New and Returning Users
- New users are visiting your store for the first time
- Returning users have visited before
This helps understand whether traffic is growing or returning.
Page Views and Engagement
- Page views show how often pages are loaded
- Average session duration shows how long users stay
- Bounce rate shows % sessions with no further interaction
Lower bounce rate usually means users are exploring more pages.
Events and Conversions
Events are recorded when users perform actions such as:
- Viewing pages
- Adding products to cart
- Completing purchases
Conversion-related metrics depend on successful event tracking.
Realtime Data
Realtime reports show activity from the last 30 minutes.
- Data updates continuously
- Numbers may change frequently
- Use realtime data for live monitoring, not historical analysis
Data Updates and Delays
Tracking data does not update instantly.
- GA4 data can take up to 24 hours to start appearing after setup or recent activity.
- Some metrics update with a delay
- Reports may take time to reflect new events or changes
This is normal behavior for Google Analytics 4.
