Set Up Google Tag Manager (Web & Server) – SST Pro Plugin

This guide explains how to set up and connect Google Tag Manager Web and Server containers using the Server Side GTM Tracking Plugin for WooCommerce.

Before starting, make sure your GTM Web Container and GTM Server Container are available.
If you don’t have them yet, you can create both directly from the plugin during setup.

You can set up GTM using two methods:

  • Automatic Setup (Recommended)
  • Manual Setup

Configure Google Tag Manager

Step 1: Open GTM Settings

  1. Log in to WordPress Admin
  2. Go to Conversios SST → Pixels & Analytics
  3. Open Google Tag Manager – Server Side

Method 1: Automatic Setup (Recommended)

This method automatically detects and connects your GTM containers.

Step 2: Select Automatic Mode

  • Under Select Tag Manager Container ID, choose Automatic

Step 3: Sign In With Google

  1. Click Sign in with Google 
  2. Select the Google account that has access to GTM and Approve the permissions
  3. Status will show Successfully signed in

Step 4: Configure Web Container

  • Select your GTM Web Container from the dropdown
    OR
  • Click Create New to create a Web container directly 

The plugin automatically:

  • Adds required tags, triggers, and variables
  • Installs Conversios templates
  • Connects the Web container to the Server container

Click Save.

Step 5: Configure Server Container

  • Select an existing GTM Server Container
    OR
  • Create a new Server container from the plugin

The Server container will be linked automatically.

Step 6: Server Set-up

  1. Choose New Conversios (GCP-Powered Server Hosting)
  2. Select your preferred server region
  3. Paste the Server Container Configuration
  4. Click Import server details and Click Save

Method 2: Manual Setup

Use this method if you prefer to manually enter container details.

Step 2: Select Manual Mode

  • Under Select Tag Manager Container ID, choose Manual

Step 3: Enter Container IDs

  1. Enter your GTM Web Container ID
  2. Enter your GTM Server Container ID
  3. Save the configuration

In this method, containers are connected using the IDs you provide.
Tags and templates are added based on your manual configuration.

Verify the Setup

  1. Open GTM Preview mode
  2. Visit your store and perform test actions:
    • Product view
    • Add to cart
    • Checkout / purchase
  3. Confirm events like view_item, add_to_cart, and purchase are firing

If events appear, the setup is complete.
