Prerequisites Before Setting Up GA4 in Conversios
Before installing Conversios Google Analytics 4, review the points below to avoid tracking conflicts and ensure accurate data collection.
1. Existing Tracking Apps or Scripts
Before installing Conversios GA4:
- Uninstall or disable other GA4 or Google Analytics tracking apps
- Remove any hard-coded GA4 or gtag scripts added to theme files
- Avoid running multiple apps for GA4 tracking
This helps prevent double counting and inconsistent reporting.
2. Google Tag or gtag Code
Do not add gtag.js or manual Google Analytics or Google Ads code separately.
- Do not place GA4 or Google Ads tags directly in theme.liquid
- Conversios manages tags automatically using its built-in setup or Google Tag Manager
Using a single tracking source ensures clean and reliable data.
3. Custom Theme or Checkout Setup
Stores using standard Shopify themes work out of the box. If your store uses:
- Custom themes
- Custom carts or drawer carts
- Modified checkout flows
Event validation is recommended after setup.
Our support team can help verify event firing if needed.
4. Order Tracking via Thank You Page
Purchase tracking requires customers to land on the Shopify Thank You page after payment.
- Orders are tracked only when the Thank You page loads
- Payment gateways must redirect customers back to the store after payment
- Most gateways include a return or redirect option – ensure it is enabled
If customers do not return to the Thank You page, purchase events cannot be recorded.
If you’re unsure about any of the above, contact the Conversios support team at [email protected] before proceeding.
